Do you know the Warning Signs of Breast Cancer?
Breast cancer is widely diagnosed in women throughout the world. The ratio of breast cancer is increasing along with the skin cancer today as compare to the past history of cancer. Any women from the middle age to the old age can develop breast cancer. There are some rare factors that depend upon this situation and take it to the higher risk but still the specific cause is not distinct.
The nearest factors of breast cancer may be include age factor, genetic inheritance of breast cancer, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, excessive consumption of alcohol and drinking, exposure to the sun rays, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, ionizing radiation, menstruation starts at an early age and having late child birth. You would be amazed to know that men can also develop breast cancer in them.
Annual mammography screenings are the necessary prescription for the women having breast cancer and they would have less chances of death than those patients who do not conduct this annual screenings. Mammography is the procedure used to detect the early stage of breast cancer but it is not important for mammogram to be perfect each time.
There are some signs appear in the breasts that may be the earliest signals of breast cancer. If you notice one of these, you must check it by the doctor or an experienced oncologist to diagnose the early cancer as soon as possible. Here you will find some usual signs of breast cancer.
1. Lump in the Breast or Armpit
A lump is developed in the breast or armpit is the first alarming sign of breast cancer. In some women these lumps are completely painless and hard in nature, but on the other hand these may be really painful in other women. Lump found under the armpit is hard or thick and dense in nature as compared to the other armpit.
Always remember not to make you stressed while noticing the lump. It is not compulsory to have cancerous lump always, but it could happen for other reasons too. Lumps may be due to the changes in hormones, breast infection and fat necrosis (damaged tissue). These situations are not as harmful as cancer.
First visit the doctor and let him check for what reason a lump is developed then get a proper diagnose according to the problem.
2. Red or Swollen Breasts
Usually red or hurt breasts are due to the pre-menstrual syndrome and redness of breasts is due to the infection. But be aware that redness or soreness could be the early sign of breast cancer.
Cancer, in other words is called tumor and breast tumor is located underneath the breast which tends to push on the breast tissues and make it swollen. Sometimes swelling is visible under the arm or the collarbone. Be ready to go to the doctor immediately after seeing these signs.
3. Nipple Discharge
Discharge from nipple without squeezing or breastfeeding could be an alarming sign of breast cancer. Rather than breast milk, any other discharge is due to the breast cancer. It is because the breast tumor gets inhibited in the milk ducts or around the nipple and causes irritation and swelling thus causes leakage from breast.
The discharge like blood or clear could be either possible cancer or infection and you must check it by the doctor before the flow could increase.
4. Pain in the Breast or Chest Area
Pain, ache in the breast or chest is not a good thing. The pain is too sharp that comes and goes like an electric current from one breast to another may be a sign of breast cancer.
It is due to the presence of tumor in one of the milk duct or directly behind the nipple causes electrical sensation and causes pain and discomfort. It needs an early treatment to know what the problem is going on with your breasts. Pain in the breast and chest could be due to other issues but serious such as hormonal changes, birth control pills, poor diet and uncomfortable bra and stress.
5. Changes in Breast Appearance
You will notice some newly formed changes in your breasts than the normal. Breast cancer causes different shape or size as the tumor leads to grow the tissues in the breast and affects its shape.
Although, these are the physical changes that you can see with your eyes but can’t feel that what is actually wrong inside the breast.
6. Nipples become Sensitive
Appearance of nipple and its change also matters in breast cancer. It is due to the location of tumor just beneath the nipple and thus causes changes in nipple. Nipples become inverted, flattened or indented. The nipples will then sensitive to touch.
There could be other reasons of nipple sensitivity such as mastitis or others. It would be best to discuss with your doctor for the proper treatment and rule out the cancer.
7. Itching on the Breasts
An unusual itchiness around your breasts can also be a bad sign and first signal of cancer. Breast cancer has many types from which itchiness could be due to the inflammatory breast cancer. It is because the tumor is found above the skin so that the area becomes red, swollen, painful and itchy.
You also feel ashamed to itch the breasts in the public area so if you want to avoid scratching hardly, you will have to visit the doctor or should use ointments or lotion for the better relief.
8. Pain in the Upper Back, Shoulder and Neck
Pain in the upper back is also involved with the breast cancer. Actually the tumor spreads to the spine and causes unbearable pain in the upper back, shoulder and neck. Breast cancer will not come to your mind at first but you will think that there is a minor problem of pain in joints and ligaments or pain with sore muscles. Cancer pain is too difficult to bear and you will be unable to change the positions.
Physical therapy is concerned with the muscular pain but if it does not give you relief, do consult with your doctor.
Tips to Lower Breast Cancer Risk
- Visit your doctor to diagnose the cancer with screenings or other ways.
- Breast self-exams are highly prescribed to do once every two months.
- Maintain a healthy weight.
- Regular exercise is recommended for at least 30 minutes.
- Take a proper sleep.
- Avoid drinking alcohol.
- Avoid the use of such chemicals that can cause cancer.
- Breastfeeding your babies is the best way to avoid breast cancer.
