3 Tips for Bariatric Surgery Recovery

If you've recently had bariatric surgery, you might be tempted to run around in glee and triumph. You should resist the urge, however, because these three tips are the steps to real recovery.

1. Take a Stroll

Walking is good for your muscles, tendons and cardiovascular organs, but it won't exhaust you like a post-op workout would. As a bonus, if you can make a habit out of daily walks, you'll keep the weight off without ever needing to go under the knife again. Sometimes the best fitness plans can start with a leisurely stroll.

2. Stick to Your Diet

Your surgeon will have given you a list of acceptable foods for your first few days in your new body. Make sure that you stick to this without cheating. Your stomach has just undergone surgery; it can't handle everything that it usually does. There will be time for all your favorite foods later.

3. Listen to Your Body

Your body may have different needs that it did before your surgery. This is to be expected, so don't be alarmed. More importantly, don't ignore the signals that it's sending. If you need a nap, take a nap. If you need the bathroom more frequently, don't deny your urges. Things will settle down eventually, but until then, respect your body's needs.

These are just three ways to recover from bariatric surgery as quickly and painlessly as possible. Click here to learn more about the procedures and the doctors who can perform them.
