1. Apple Cider Vinegar
The nature of apple cider vinegar is acidic thus it helps in killing the fungus and stops them from spreading. Along with it, it kills other bacteria and fungi.
- Take equal parts of both apple cider vinegar and water then mix them. Soak your toenail in this solution for about 30 minutes. Do this remedy on regular basis for few weeks.
- You can make antifungal exfoliating scrub at your home by mixing some coarsely ground rice flour and few spoons of apple cider vinegar. Apply this paste on the toenail and scrub with gentle hands. Do this remedy for few weeks.
2. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil can be easily available to you and it contains antiseptic and antifungal properties that help in the skin treatment of course toenail fungus.
- Take a bowl and mix few drops of tea tree oil and one tsp of olive or coconut oil.
- With the help of a cotton ball, apply the mixture on the affected toenail.
- Leave the mixture for 10 minutes then scrub toenail using a rough toothbrush.
- Do this remedy at least three times daily until you see some improvement.
3. Baking Soda
Baking soda is a common ingredient always present in your kitchen so it is not so difficult for you to do a simple remedy with it. Baking soda actually neutralize foot odor.
- In a bowl, pour one-half cup of baking soda, one-fourth cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide and one-half cup of Epsom salt. Now add four cups of hot water in the bowl.
- Mix them properly then lastly add one-fourth cup of white vinegar in it.
- Soak the affected toenail in this mixture for 10 minutes then wash it off and dry the foot carefully.
- Repeat the process two times daily.
4. White Vinegar
White vinegar also contains acidic properties and is best remedy to treat toenail fungus. The benefit of white vinegar is that it restores the normal pH of skin.
- In a bowl, add one part of white vinegar and two parts of warm water then mix them well together.
- Soak the toenail in that solution for about 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, rinse it off with cold water.
- You would have to do this process two times daily.
5. Oregano Oil
Oregano oil has antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-parasitic, analgesic, antiviral and antifungal properties. That is why it is called a super effective treatment for the toenail fungus.
- Mix two drops of oregano oil with one tsp of olive oil.
- Apply it directly on the affected toenail and leave it for 30 minutes.
- Rinse it off with water and let it dry.
- Repeat the remedy for twice regularly for three weeks.
6. Listerine Mouthwash
The purpose of using Listerine mouthwash is that it helps in killing bacteria and germs present in the mouth. It also works on the toenail attacked by the fungus. It is recommended because it contains some compounds that are strongly antiseptic in nature along with the alcohol that keep bacteria and fungus far away from your skin.
- Take a small tub and fill it with Listerine mouthwash or you can add half part of white vinegar and half part of Listerine mouthwash.
- Soak the foot in this mixture for 30 minutes then gently scrub with your hands.
- Rinse it off then dry the area.
- Repeat the remedy for twice daily until you see the infection is vacant.
7. Garlic
Garlic is also essential to treat the toenail fungus as it has allicin and ajoene compounds which possess antifungal properties.
- Mix equal amounts of both garlic oil and white vinegar.
- Apply directly on the affected toenail and cover it with a bandage.
- Leave it for some hours.
- Repeat the remedy until the infection is vanished completely and you see the difference.
- You can use crushed and fried garlic cloves in case of unavailability of garlic oil and can add them in two tbsp. of olive oil in order to prepare a paste.
8. Lemon Juice
Like other ingredients, lemon juice also works with its antiseptic and antifungal properties. It has a special compound known as citric acid that stops the toenail fungus from spreading further.
- Squeeze the juice from the lemon and directly apply on the affected toenail.
- Leave it for 30 minutes then rinse it with warm water.
- Another remedy you can do is mix equal amounts of lemon juice and olive oil together and massage on the infected part.
- Leave it for few hours then rinse it off thoroughly.
- The advantage of olive oil is it helps in soften the skin whereas lemon juice will help in controlling the fungal infection.
9. Lavender Oil
Lavender oil contains unpredictable compounds along with antiseptic properties which help in many kind of infection and prevent skin irritation.
- Mix five drops of lavender and tea tree oil.
- Apply the solution under the top edge of the toenail and surrounding the part with the help of cotton ball.
- Leave the mixture for 10 minutes then rinse and dry properly.
- Repeat three times a day.
10. Orange Oil
Orange oil has antiseptic and antifungal properties and is used to treat many kinds of skin infections. Orange oil can produce some side effects like allergy so it is important to test orange oil on the small portion of your skin first before starting the remedy with it.
- Using a dropper could be an easy way to test the orange oil by dropping between your toes and under your nails. Dilute the oil with an equal amount of carrier oil like grape seed oil if you have sensitive skin.
- Leave it for 30 minutes.
- Repeat the remedy for three times daily until you see the positive results.
