Bone Broth: Healthy Homemade Chicken Soup
Winter has arrived, making it the perfect weather for cooking some hot ‘n healthy homemade soup. Homemade soup made with a whole chicken or turkey with the bones is nutrient-dense, mineral-rich, delicious and filling meal that not only strengthens the immune system, it’s a healing super food that strengthens the immune system, reduces inflammation, heals leaky gut, digestive dysfunction and GI disorders, helpful for allergies, infections, brain health, cellulite, joint pain, arthritis, bone integrity and osteoporosis, healthy hair and nail growth.
Another bonus, according to studies published in these two journals, Obesity and Appetite, people who consumed broth-based soups ate less, felt fuller and were more successful in losing weight.
Homemade Chicken or Turkey Soup
This Fat Loss Revolution style recipe is super simple to make plus it’s filling, nutritious and delicious.
Place the following ingredients in a slow cooker, large kettle or a crock pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook on low for 6-8 hours or longer if using a crock pot. Before serving, remove the chicken from the pot and remove the skin, meat and bones. Return the meat to the pot. Serve and enjoy!
- 1 whole organic chicken or turkey, 5-8lb.
- 5-6 cups clean, filtered water
- 32 ounces organic low-sodium veggie broth plus 2 cups filtered water
- 2-3 tbsp. raw apple cider vinegar
- 6-7 carrots, chopped
- 4-5 stalks celery, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced or frozen cubes from Trader Joe’s
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup each: fresh cilantro and fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 huge knuckle fresh ginger, grated
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
- 1-2 bay leaves
- 1/4 tsp. turmeric powder or 1 tbsp. fresh turmeric, peeled
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper; 1/4 tsp. black pepper; 1/2 tsp. sea salt
